Why do my lightbulbs burn out so often?
This is a common question for us, and the answer is pretty simple: low quality, non-branded bulbs are more likely to burn out quickly. The use of wattages larger than the suggested rating can also burn out bulbs rapidly. If you’re using high quality bulbs of the correct wattage but still experience frequent burnouts, it might be due to power surges in your property’s electrical grid.
Should I have surge protection on my home appliances?
Multiplex power outlets that provide surge protection can and do save appliances like televisions, stereos and computers. Even if you have mainline protection against power surges, additional protection down the line helps assure nothing goes wrong in the face of potential disaster. The one situation in which you don’t want to have surge protection is when using voltage converters, such as those necessary to plug in 220-volt European appliances in American outlets.
What should I do if my circuit breakers have tripped?
First, disconnect any devices that may have caused the circuit breaker to overload. These safety devices are designed to trip when too much current is flowing, so you’ll probably have to remove one or two appliances in order to put it back. To reset the circuit breaker, find your electrical panel and look for the breaker facing away from all the others—that’s the one you want to pull back in line with the rest of your breakers. If you continue experiening problems, call Your Naperville Electrician and have us take a look.
